| Golf and taxation
One interesting thing is how golf is perceived in the continent of Africa: it is the game of the rich. That perception has made the game be actually shunned by most people who are of a lower economic class. Another thing that has made this scenario so is the fact that the governments in Africa don’t do anything to promote the game. The Governments may waive taxes for other sports equipments but hardly would you hear that taxes for imported golf equipments have been waived. You will also note that if you open a golf club, you will be subjected to a number of taxes. It is hard to get even a waiver on the VAT. The taxes levied on the game equipments and the golf club will actually make golf continue to become much of the elitist game, because they make it out of reach of the common man.
