Iron (Golf)

Irons are mostly used for making shorter hits. The number of irons in the club normally varies between 1 and 9. The “long irons” consist of 1 to 4 irons; “mid irons” with 5 to 7 irons and more above 8 are termed as “short irons” or wedges. For low, straight distance shots on long holes or from the rough, longer irons are applied whereas, for chip shots and rarely for putting, shorter irons are used. The irons are classified as muscle back irons, cavity-back irons and hybrid irons. Its 90-100 cm shafts are makeup of steel with lower torque. The hosels of the irons is barrel shaped. The clubheads of the irons are framed through a process called investment casting that improves the accuracy of mishit shots. The proportion of the iron is opposite to its length. A club head with same angular velocity and mass traveling will have lower thrust.
